VERGE, Gwen - On March 14th, 1996, long time resident of Gander (formerly of St. John's), Mrs. Gwen Verge passed away in Yorba Linda, California. Mrs. Verge was a member of the Fraser United Church and Choir, Ladies Associations of the Church, Gander Masonic, Gander Academy, I.O.D.E. and various bridge clubs. She was an active member of charitable organizations in Fullerton and Yorba Linda, California. Apart from being a homemaker, she was Manager of an established family owned company. She enjoyed traveling and social events with husband Bob before he retired from the Petroleum Industry. Survivors are: husband Bob, daughters Trudy Ann (Jeffrey) Briggs, Janet G. Love, Cathy Verge-Martin, granddaughters Jennifer and Leslie, sister Mrs. Pearl (Harvey) LeGrow of Bauline. Final resting place Loma Vista Memorial Park, Fullerton, California.

Born June 1, 1955 in St. John's, Newfoundland, he was son of Mary (Hodder) Whalen and the late Eric Whalen. He worked in the Federal Public Service until his retirement due to ill health. Father Whelan was born in St. John's, Newfoundland, the son of the late Capt. John Whelan and Marcella Burke and the beloved brother of George Whelan, Willowdale. Ontario, Dr. Ronald Whelan, Agnes Greene, and Mary Rockwell, St. John's. Newfoundland. Father Whelan was predeceased by his brother, Dr. Patrick Whelan; and brother-in-law, Carman Rockwell. He will be missed by his sisters-in-law: Gloria, Betty Lou and Marie; his brother-in-law, Rupert Greene; his many nieces, nephews and friends. Father Whelan spent 40 years of his life in India, from 1954 to 1994. serving as a teacher of History and Political Studies at St. Joseph's College in Darjeeling. Besides teaching, Father Whelan also worked as the College Librarian and Custodian of the Archives. He returned to Canada in 1994 and served at Martyrs' Shrine and at the Upper Canada Jesuit Archives until his sudden death. WILANSKY, Maurice -82. died peacefully at the Baycrest Hospital in Toronto December 4th, 1996. Born in St. John's, Newfoundland, the son of the late Isadore and Esther Wilansky. Maurice was predeceased by his first wife, Penelope (nee Gianu) in 1980 and by his second wife Ruth (Cohen) in 1996. He is mourned by his two daughters and their families, Paula and Bill Frost, Monterrey, (Mexico), and their son Toby (Topsail, NF), Marsha and Michael Smith and their two daughters, Christine and Heather .(Danville, KY); his sister Bertha Kessler (New Jersey), his brother Dr. Albert (Tom) Wilansky (Pennsylvania) and his step family, Mark, Joanne and daughter Lindsay Wolfson (Toronto) and Andrew, Louise and children: Louis, Candice and Dtanna Wolfson (Halifax). He was predeceased by his siblings Samual Wilansky (Toronto), Sylvia Shulman/Smith (Toronto) and Dr. Donald Wilansky (Wassington, D.C.). Maurice, partner in The Model Shop, and later owner of Maurice Wilansky's Men's Wear was a fixture in the St. John's menswear industry for almost fifty years. He was an accomplished concert violinist and gave performances in St. John's, Newfoundland accompanied on the piano by his wife Penelope, however, Maurice will be best remembered for his community service, his desire to help anyone he could, his generosity and ever present supply of funny stories. Active in the Rotary, Masonic Lodge, and in organizing performances for the Community concerts, Maurice improved the quality of life in St. John's. His neighbors on Glenridge Crescent will always be grateful for Maurice's snow plow in their driveways every time it snowed. Maurice was a true Newfoundlander, quick to laugh, quick to make others laugh and always willing to help anyone who asked. God bless you Maurice, you made the world a better place for every one you touched. A memorial service to be held in St. John's, Newfoundland, will be announced. Retired Captain of the U.S. Navy Fire Department of Argentia, Newfoundland. Funeral services will be held Monday January 20, 1992 at St. Andrew's United Church Cambridge. YOUDEN, Myrtle - Formerly of Cambridge, at her residence in Webster, Florida, on Monday, October 4, 1993 in her 76th year. Myrtle Penney, beloved wife of the late James A. Youden (1992), dear mother of one son Ralph Youden of Cambridge, and four daughters, Marilyn Allen of Kingsville, Texas, Mary Bley of Long Beach, Mississippi, Shirley Pastiran of Kansas City, Kansas, and Marie Phillips of Webster, Florida. Also survived by one brother, James Penney of Cambridge, and one sister Ruth Pelly of Grand Falls, Newfoundland. Lovingly remembered by ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Pre-deceased by one daughter, one son and two grandsons. Myrtle was born in Georgetown, Newfoundland and was a member of St. Andrew's United Church. Friends will be received at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge on Wednesday, October 6 from 7 - 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral will be held at St. Andrew's United Church, 546 Montrose Street, Cambridge on Friday, October 8, 1993 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. He was ordained as deacon at St. Thomas' Church, 1937 and priest at the Anglican Cathedral, St. John's, 1938 and served in the parishes of Salvage, Rose Blanche and Hering Neck before moving to Nova Scotia, 1947.
