Bos Warlas | Boswarlos. The community was named by my great grandfather, Andrew Harvey, after the farm in Cornwall England, where his wife Honour (Tregear) grew up. Somehow, the last "o" and "a" were reversed in the Newfoundland community. The farm in Cornwall is named Bosworlas, which is Cornish for Bos = "home", wor = "with", las= drink of lichen. It is reported that the Tregears were some of the "Pirates of Penzance", and when we visited there in 1969, heard several interesting stories of those days at that farm. I do have a picture of the name on the original farm spelled Bosworlas. | Doug Harvey |
