by: Laverne (Perrier) Cormier
Descendants of Benjamin PERRIER and {1} Genevieve LEJEUNE
{2} Celeste (Elizabeth/Sarah) MARCHE
BENJAMIN PERRIER was born Abt. 1800 in France. He married
(1) GENEVIEVE "JENNY" LEJEUNE Abt. 1833 in Bay St. George, Nfld
(2) and CELESTE OR ELIZABETH MARCHE Abt. 1850 in Sandy Point, Nfld.
Notes for BENJAMIN PERRIER:
Family tradition say that Benjamin Perrier came from Paris, France.
It is also said that he jumped ship in Newfoundland and remained there.
In the 1839 List of inhabitants on the Western Shore of
Newfoundland, Microfilm C.O. 194 vol. 107, Benjamin is listed as
follows: Benjamin Parisaine, 5 in the family and from Cape Breton.
in the comment section: Herring and Cod fishery very poor, not very
hen____, employed by English Merchants and sometimes by the French.
Very imprudent and fare badly during winter.
Excerpt from a letter dated 19 Oct 1850, from the Magistrate at St.
George's Bay to the Hon. James Crowdy, Colonial Secretary: "in other
instances, French subjects are here residing from year to year,
summer and winter, occupying these posts to the entire exclusion of
Her Majesty's subjects-instance of Benjamin Perrier, Flat Bay Brook,
completely inland distinct from the coast.-He assumes the entire
fishery." Journal of the House of Assembly for 1851.
The marriage of Benjamin & second wife Celseste /Elizabeth / Sarah
Marche (widow of John Ogden) was revalidated on the 6 July 1852.
1871 Lovelle's Directory for Newfoundland: Flat Bay, Benjamin
Parashaw, farmer.(*My NOTE: unknown varient of this name, but there
were two Parashaw's listed, Benjamin & B., and as there were two
Benjamin Perrier's, father & son, not listed as Perrier or Parisenne,
it is my belief that for some reason the name was recorded as
Parashaw.) This Benjamin Perrier was not listed in any further
Directories. In a letter written to Jean LeMieux from Edmund Burns
(Cheticamp, N.S.), Benjamin is referred to as Charles-Benjamin Perrier,
husband of Genevieve Lejeune (aka Jenny Young).
Notes for CELESTE OR ELIZABETH MARCHE:
Her first marriage was to John Ogden. At least 2 children were born
to this union. [1] John jr. & [2] Margaret who married Didier Sheppard.
Celeste's (or Elizabeth or Sarah, as she was known by all three names ???)
2nd marriage was to Benjamin Perrier, that marriage was revalidated
6 Jun 1852 at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Sandy Point,
Bay St. George, Nfld.

between the date of death and the funeral, it would seem that there

Notes for EMMANUEL PERRIER:
His date of birth April 1860 is what was listed in the 1921 Census
for Flat Bay, Emmanuel was listed as a Widow. His year of birth
listed in the bible of my Grandmother, Evelyn Perrier was 1857. His
death record is at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, St. George's, Nfld. He
is listed as aged 74 years. The Priest was Rev. J.C. Stoyles. (If he
was 74 at the time of his death, Emmanuel would have been born in
1856, from the bible 1857 and from the census records 1860????)
(It is my belief that Joseph Perrier, born April 1858 and Emmanuel
are the same person and that his full name is Joseph Emmanuel. My
grandfather Ralph Perrier named one of his sons Joseph Emmanuel and
when this child died he named another son Emmanuel Joseph.
Emmanuel's sister Louise (married George Benoit) named her first son
Joseph Emmanuel and when he died she named another son Joseph
Emmanuel. Emmnauel's son Charles named one of his sons Manuel
Joseph. Please remember this is just a theory that I have at the
moment.)
