CANDOW, Alexander James "Sandy" | Candow, Alexander James "Sandy" - of Kentville and Sarasota, Florida, died Friday, November 12, 1999 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Mount Moriah, Newfoundland, he was the son of the late James and Annie (Hynes) Candow. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving overseas with a rank of Flight Lieutenant with the Royal Air Force. Upon returning from overseas, he founded 511 Humber Squadron Air Cadets in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. He was a prominent businessman in Corner Brook and moved to Kentville in 1974 and founded Glenngary Pines Par 3 Golf Course. He was a past vice-president of Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club. He was a 50-year member of Lomond Masonic Lodge, Corner Brook, Newfoundland. He was a former member of the Corner Brook Rotary Club; a former member and director of Blomidon Golf and Country Club, Corner Brook, Newfoundland; former member of the Kentville Gyro Club; and a former member of the Sarasota Lions Club. For the past several years, he resided six months of each year in Sarasota, Florida. He is survived by two sons: Glenn and wife Jocelyn, Lantz, Hants Co.; Gary and wife Tanya, Kentville; three sisters: Bertha and Phyllis, both of Vancouver Island; Dorothy, Ontario; four brothers: Gordon, Corner Brook; Lloyd, Newfoundland; Allan, Cape Ray, Newfoundland; David, Burlington, Ontario; three grandchildren: Darren, Mark and Andrea; very dear companion Grace Carlton. DUNPHY, Patrick William | Dartmouth Patrick William Dunphy of Dartmouth died December 8, 1999 in his 76th year at the Q. E. Two Health Sciences (Victoria General Site) in Halifax. Born in Curling, Newfoundland he was a son of the late Thomas and Mary (Rockett) Dunphy. He received his high school education at the Sacred Heart School in Curling. He went to work at Furlong Bros. Herring Plant and Coombs Department Store before joining the firm Humber Motors Ltd. in 1954. In 1964 he purchased the automobile dealership from the estate of his father-in-law, and continued to operate the same until 1978 when he sold the company to Derek Young C.A. He was a member of the Archbishop Howley Council of the Knights of Columbus for many years and was an Honorary Life Member. He was also an Honorary Member of Rotary International. During his years in the automobile business he served a term as president of the Newfoundland Auto Dealers Association and was a director of the Canadian Auto Dealers Association, he also served as a director of the Ford Dealer Advisory council. During his business career he also served a year as president of the Corner Brook Chamber of Commerce and a director of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. Surviving are his wife the former Dorothy Wiseman, one daughter Barbara MacEwen (John) and their children Patrick and Lori-Beth all of Dartmouth. Also surviving are his sisters Gertrude McLennan (John), Joan O'Driscoll (Francis) and brothers Gerald (Grace), William (Irene), Kenneth (Renata) and a large circle of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Rita Milani and brothers Francis and Harold. Visitation will be 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00-9:00 (Thursday) today in Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen Street. PARDY, Harvey Junior | Age 64 Formerly of Corner Brook, NF Passed away peacefully in his home on the 9th of December, Harvey Pardy Junior, after a 9-year struggle with leukemia. His strength of character and caring heart endeared him to many people. While his final years were not peaceful he was at peace. At peace with the difficulties he had to face and at peace with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Harvey is lovingly remembered by his sons: Harvey L. J. Pardy (Brenda) and Larry G. Pardy (Sharon), his step-daughters: Tammy Graham (Andy) and Tara MacCullum (Danny), his grandchildren, his brothers and sisters and countless other family and friends. Harvey loved the Lord and found his strength is Him. The race that was set before him he ran with endurance and finished well.
