BROWN, Dorothy H.  South China and Limestone, Maine. Dorothy Hynes Brown, 70, of Chadwick Hill Drive, died August 20, 1997, Wednesday at Inland Hospital in Waterville. Born in Searstown, Newfoundland, Canada on October 24, 1926, she was the daughter of John and Catherine (Downey) Hynes. Dorothy was educated in local schools and attended Littledale College and Memorial University in St. Johns, Newfoundland. She received her teacher's certificate. On September 27,1949 she married John Patrick Brown in Searstown, Newfoundland. She was employed by the Army Audit Agency at Harmon Air Force Base in Stephenville, Newfoundland. She traveled with her husband while he was in the U.S. Air Force. In 1966 she was employed at the NCO Club at Ellsworth AFB South Dakota. In 1972 she and her family moved To Limestone. Dorothy worked at the NCO Club at Loring AFB, retiring in 1991 as office manager. She and her husband moved to South China in 1993. She was a communicant of St. Bridget's Catholic Church in North Vassalboro.

Surviving are her husband of 48 years, John P. Brown of South China; six daughters: Patricia Harms of Eagan, Minnesota, Maureen Brown of Brunswick, L/Col Sheila Brocki of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Geralyn Sidders of Mansfield, Ohio, Martha McCarthy of Sidney and Mary Mahowald of Navarre, Florida; three brothers: James Hynes and Leonard Hynes of Newfoundland and Bernard Hynes of Oromocto, New Brunswick; two sisters: Teresa McDonald of Nova Scotia and Patricia Shields of Newfoundland; 10 grandchildren; andseveral aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Her granddaughter, Candace Harms, died previously as did two brothers: Leo and Gerard Hynes and two sisters: Mary Stella Hynes and Eileen Upton. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 21 at Gray and Pratt Funeral Home, Windsor Neck Road, Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, August 22, 1997 at St. Peter's Chapel, Route 202, Lakeview Drive, China, with Rev. Donald Daigle officiating. Burial will be at a laterdate. If desired, the family suggests memorial gifts to the American Heart Association, Maine Division, Inc., P.O. Box 346, Augusta, Maine 04330-0346. Contribution envelopes will be available at the funeral home and the chapel.
