Will of Margaret Pittman
In re Margaret Pittman deceased. (*Transcriber's Note:This is written in Volume 1 page 487 but not in will book 1846)

In the name of God Amen, I Margaret Pittman of Sops Island in White Bay in the Island of Newfoundland Widow, being very weak in or/in perfect health of body but (of and) of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God, calling unto mind the mortality of my body, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it, and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again, by the mighty power of God, and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.

First I give and bequeath to William Pittman my dearly beloved son whatever sum or sums of money that may be due to me from William Fryer and Messrs. Fryer Andrews of Winborn Dorset England Merchants, together with all my household goods, debts and movable effects and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other former testaments wills legacies bequests and executors by me in any ways before named willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 25th day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty three. Margaret Pittman LS Signed sealed published pronounced and declared by the said Margaret Pittman as her last will and testament in the presence of us who in her presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names, Geo. Roberts of St. John’s, William McCarthy of Saint John’s, John Bartlett of St. John’s

Newfoundland - In the Supreme Court St. John’s to wit. William McCarthy of St. John’s aforesaid Master Mariner a Subscribing witness to the foregoing paper writing maketh call and sayeth that he was present when the said paper writing was read over to Margaret Pittman herein named and that she requested the witness George Roberts, whose name is herto subscribed to set her name and seal thereto and published and declared the same as and for her last will and testament in the presence as well of this Deferrent as of the said George Roberts and John Bartlett the other subscribing witness thereto - and that the same was read over and fully explained to the said Testatrix and that the same was written by the said George Roberts by her dictation and at her request - and this Defferent further saith that the said Margaret Pittman at the time of publishing her said will was of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding to the very best of this defferents knowledge and belief.
