Will of Elias Roberts

In re: ELIAS ROBERTS. DECEASED.

I Elias Roberts of Burlington, N. W. Arm being of sound and disposing mind and memory, to hereby make and publish this as and for my last will and testament. And first, I direct my executors hereinafter named to pay all my just debts, funeral expenses and any expenses incident to the administration of my estate as soon as reasonably may be after my decease.

Then. I give, devise and bequeath to my son Josiah, the mill with all machinery, & tools appertaining to it; also my dwelling house furniture, stores, stable, and lands surrounding the same. Whatever timber may be on my estate or belonging to me, will go towards paying off any wages or debts owed by me; or if there are no wages or debts to be paid, will become the property of my son Josiah.

Item. I give and bequeath my motorboat & engine to my son Josiah.

Item I give and bequeath what ever poultry or animals I may possess to my wife Rosanna. If I should own a horse it would become the property of my son Josiah.

Item. The dwelling house situated on 99 Bond Street St. John's Nfld is the joint property of myself and my son Josiah. I devise that my share of the house amounting to the sum of four hundred & fifty dollars [$450.00] be sold. I give and bequeath the aforesaid sum to my wife Rosanna.

Item I devise that my life insurance policy amounting to the sum of four hundred dollars [$400] be used to pay off any debt I may owe my brother William, the balance to go to my son Josiah.

Item. I give and bequeath my watch and chain to my son Josiah.

Item. I devise that my wife remain in possession of my dwelling house, stores & outhouses as long as she should live, providing she should wish to do so and remains unmarried. No other family or families to reside therein without the consent of my son Josiah, the property becoming my sons on her decease my wife Rosanna not desiring to live therein, it becomes the immediate property of my son Josiah.

Item. I do hereby nominate my said son Josiah to be the executor of this my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this eleventh day of June A. D. 1918 -Elias Roberts- signed published and declared by Elias Roberts the above named testator, as and for his last will and testament, in the presence of us who at his request, in his presence, and in the presence of each other, have hereunto subscribed our names as witness H. MacKay Andrew Roberts
