The United Church cemetery has
had an amazing transformation. Over the last 10 years, Mr. William
Pardy has been the coordinator in the cemetery restoration project.
Mr. Pardy worked with the church, the contractor and the people who
have contributed funds for this amazing transformation. This project
could not have been accomplished without hiring contractors and
without the money donated by expatriates from Mainland Canada and the
U.S. who had loved ones buried in the cemetery. Before the
restoration, the cemetery was nothing but boulders, rock, brush and
tress but now is more like a park overlooking Catalina and Port Union.
During the restoration, they found headstones that they didn't know
existed, dating back to the mid nineteenth century. The project is
basically finished except they would like the road paved.
