In re: WILLIAM ASHFORD. DECEASED.

I William Ashford Senr of Catalina Trinity Bay Newfoundland being in bad state of health but of sound mind and memory think it best to make this my last will and testament. I appoint my friend Mr. John Mifflen to be my executor to carry the same into effect. I have sums of eight hundred pounds deposited in Government debentures one hundred pounds in the Union Bank of St. John’s Newfoundland about one hundred pounds in my house which is to be deposited in a bank or some safe place of keeping one hundred pounds to be paid to my daughter Susannah Percy two years after my death

To my two grand daughters namely Jane and Rachael Ashford I give fifty pounds each to be paid them in October eighteen hundred and eighty eight the remaining amount I give to my son William Ashford two thirds to my grandson James Ashford one third and interest on the said three amounts say one hundred pounds and one hundred pounds and eight hundred pounds

I give to my son William Ashford two thirds to my grand son James Ashford one third principal and interests to be paid them in October one thousand eight hundred and eighty eight.

My dwelling house out house, fishing room land household furniture and whatever else I may die possessed of I give two thirds part to my son William Ashford to be possessed by him during his natural life after his decease to become the property of the male part of his family to all or to any of them as he may think fit the said property not to be sold mortgaged given in security taken for debt and any interest arising from it to my grandson James Ashford I give the remaining one third to be possessed by him during his natural life after his decease to become the property of the male part of his family to all or to any of them he may think fit the said property not to be sold mortgaged given in security or taken for debt or any interest arising from it. In witnesses whereof I have hereto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this fifth day of August one thousand eight hundred and seventy-three-
