Will of Thomas Cooper

IN RE:   THOMAS COOPER.    DECEASED

I Thomas Cooper, Shop-keeper a Fisherman of Irelands Eye in the Electoral District of Trinity, Newfoundland, hereby make my last will and testament, revoking and annulling all former wills and dispositions of my property. I give and bequeath to my wife my dwelling house and all the contents of the same to be for her sole use during her widow hood and after her death the same to be for my son Edward Joseph for his sole use. The moneys in my name in the banks is not be withdrawn from the Bank, and I hereby bequeath the interest of the said money to be given to my wife, while she remains a widow for her maintenance and support. After the death of my wife I bequeath to each of my sons the sum of four hundred dollars, namely, Henry, James, Frederick, Lionel and Edward.

I desire that after my death that my wife hold my bank books during her life time and after her death for my son Edward to take charge of the same. I desire that my son Edward will see his father and mother decently buried and that he place a Head stone at each grave to their memory. I give and bequeath my shop and contents to my wife for her use during her widowhood and after her death I give the shop to my son Edward.

I give the property now held by my sons Edward and Lionel to them for their sole use, and all other my property as well as nets, seine, punts, stores, stages, flakes, to be equally divided between Lionel and Edward, my sons. If one brother leaves the settlement then he must give or sell his part of the property to the brother which remains on the room in no account is the property to be sold or left to any one outside my family.

I give and bequeath the straw arm chair to Edward, the Parlor Organ to my granddaughter Effie, the large Bible for Walter my own gun for Alexander. I give and bequeath all my land at Snooks Harbour measured and granted in my name, to my grandson Alexander. I give and bequeath the sum of Forty dollars to the clergy Sustentation Fund of the Diocese of Newfoundland I give and bequeath to my grandchildren, Alexander the sum of Twenty Dollars, to Walter Henry Twenty dollars, Chesley and Thomas, sons of my son Frederick, the sum of Twenty dollars each I give and bequeath to my son Edward what monies and stock may be left at the final dividing and settling up of this my estate. I hereby appoint my son Edward Joseph to be the executor of this my last will. Thomas Cooper Ireland's Eye, September 9th 1908 Witnessed by us in our presence this ninth day of September 1908.
