In re: JOHN HARRIS. DECEASED.

In the name of God Amen I John Harris of Russels Cove Trinity Bay South Newfoundland being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hand of almighty God that gave it and my body I commend to the Earth to be buried in decent Christian Burial at the discretion of my executors nothing doubting bu t at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following means and form.

First I give and bequeath to my wife Susanna Harris all my tilled land as long as she remains a widow But my daughter Eliza Power is not to be turned of the said land but reap part of the benefit from the said land as long as Eliza does continue a widow.

Second I give and bequeath to my five sons Zechariah Harris, Samuel Harris Ebenezer Harris Esau Harris Gregory Harris all my uncultivated land to be equally divided between them before it is tilled.

Thirdly I give and bequeath to William Harris and Ambrose Harris sufficient room on my fishing room at Russels Cove to make a pier to fish each of them They and there successors but should William Harris or Ambrose Harris leave the said fishing room they have no further claim on it. It is not to be sold to any other parties but remain the property of my sons they and their successors.

Fourthly should William Belben son of John Belben be inclined to come to reside at Russels Cove he is to have room on my fishing room to make a pier to fish.

Fifthly I give and bequeath the remaining part of my fishing room at Russels Cove to my five sons Zechariah Harris, Samuel Harris, Ebenezer Harris Esau Harris Gregory Harris to be equally divided among them. But should either of my sons leave the said fishing room they have no further claim on it it is not to be sold but remain the property of my sons that do remain they and their successors.

Lastly I give and bequeath to my son Gregory Harris my dwelling house out dogirons(?) at Russels Cove

In witness whereof I the said John Harris have to this my last will and testament set my hand the fourth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy five.
