Will of Alfred Pelley

IN RE:   ALFRED PELLEY.    DECEASED

Hants Harbour Newfoundland In the name of God. Amen. The thirteenth day of August one thousand nine hundred and nine I Alfred Pelley of Hants Harbor Newfoundland Fisherman being sick and weak of body, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God therefore calling unto mind the mortality of the body, knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say, principally and first of all. I give and recommend my soul into the hands of almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth, to be buried in decent christian burial, at the discretion of my executor nothing doubting, but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the almighty power of God, and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form

First I give and bequeath my dwelling house and all my outhouses. Lands and Garden sheep and all my cattle to my beloved wife Elizabeth Pelley until her decease when it shall become the property of my adopted son Barzallai Pelley. He the said Barzallai Pelley is not to sell barter, or exchange any of the said cattle during my wife's lifetime without her full consent. Also. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Elizabeth Pelley the sum of Twelve dollars per annum together with the rent of the property sold to James W. Janes viz ($10.00) Ten dollars per annum until expiration of said lease. Also I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Elizabeth Pelley all my Beds & Bedsteads Bedding Bedroom furniture to dispose of as she pleases also I give and bequeath to my wife Elizabeth Pelley whatever money I may have at my decease. After my wife's decease the rent due from Adeys property now sold to James W. Janes is to be paid to my adopted son Barzallai Pelley.

I give and bequeath to my son William James Pelley now residing at Lynn Mass my watch and watch chain. And I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other former testaments, wills Legacies bequests, and executors, by me in any ways before named, willed and bequeathed; ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. And I hereby appoint Peter Tuck to be my sole executor of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written Alfred Pelley his x mark Signed Sealed published pronounced and declared by the said Alfred Pelley as his last will and testament in the presence of us the subscribers J.
