Matilda Pelley Lockyer

This is the last will and testament of me Matilda Pelly Lockyer, wife of William Lockyer of Trinity in the Dominion of Newfoundland.

Firstly. I give and bequeath to my niece Nelly Pearcey, daughter of Joseph and Jessie Pearcey of St. John's. The sum of fifty dollars [$50] from monies that I have deposited in the Nfld. Government Savings Bank.

Secondly. I give devise and bequeath to my two daughters Blanche Grant, wife of Samuel D. Grant, of Trinity, and Stella Eliza Lockyer unmarried, also of Trinity, the balance or residue of the monies in the aforesaid Savings Bank, [after paying the aforementioned legacy of Fifty dollars to Nelly Pearcey] - to be equally divided between them share and share alike.

Thirdly. I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Stella Eliza Lockyer aforesaid, the Dwelling House I own and situate on Young's Street, St. John's, Nfld, or if the said house is sold, the proceeds thereof shall be for her own use and benefit.

Fourthly. The amount of eight hundred dollars [$800] which I lent to my husband William Lockyer to help carry on his business and which amount now stands to my credit on his books - I give devise and bequeath to my two daughters aforesaid Blanche Grant and Stella Eliza Lockyer the aforesaid amount of eight hundred dollars [$800] or the balance with interest accruing thereto, to be equally divided between them share and share alike - with the proviso, that the said money be left in my said husband's business - While my said husband continues the business he now carries on - or remains unmarried but should he discontinue the business or marry again - then the amount due me on his books shall be paid to my two daughters as I direct above in equal shares.

Fifthly. My Piano now in my house in which I reside - I give and devise to my aforesaid daughter Stella Eliza Lockyer for her own use and benefit absolutely.

Sixthly. I appoint James D. Lockyer my brother-in-law to be Executor of this my last Will and Testament. Dated in Trinity this second day of April A.D. 1919.Matilda Pelley Lockyer. Signed by the said Matilda P. Lockyer in our presence who in her presence and in the presence of each other, at the same time subscribe our names as Witnesses. Edwin G. Grant. Julia Lockyer.
