Edward Hopkins deceased

In the name of God Amen. I Edward Hopkins of Hearts Content Trinity Bay Newfoundland Planter being advanced in years, deem it expedient, that I should while possessing sound mind and memory, make this my last will and testament touching such wordly goods as has pleased God to help me with. I therefore bequeath and dispose of the same as follows. To wit

First; That from my estate all my lawful debts be paid by my Executor

Second- To my daughter Catherine Ollerhead of Hearts Content I give all and singular that portion of my property which she now occupies -with all its appurtenances- which I formally gave her by word of mouth -

Third- All and Singular my land houses all goods, chattels and effects of every description-and wheresoever to be found-being the residue of the above bequest to my daughter Catherine Ollerhead and of land sold by me to Anglo-American Telegraph Company and to Tillard Brothers of Hearts Content. I will and bequeath to my daughter Phebe Moore-after the death of my wife-she having to assist to support her mother my said wife during her natural life-and give her body decent Christian burial

Fourthly-I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and anull all and every other former will Testament and bequest by me before made-And declare this only to be my last Will and Testament and I nominate and appoint John P. Tillard Esquire my Executor to this my last Will and Testament-In witness to which. I hereby subscribe my hand and seal declaring this to be my last will and testament this second day of August one thousand eight hundred and eighty one. Edward Hopkins X his mark Signed Sealed Published and declared by said Edward Hopkins to be his last Will and Testament it being first read to him in our presence who signed the same in his presence and in the presence of each other as subscribing witnesses- George Young G. W. R. Hierhily (?) Commissioner Supreme Court.Be it known unto all men by these presents that I Edward Hopkins of Hearts Content Newfoundland have made and declared my last Will and Testament in writing bearing date the Second day of August one thousand eight hundred and eighty one

on the other side written-I the said Edward Hopkins by this present codicil do ratify and confirm my said last Will and Testament and do further give and bequeath to the children of my daughter Phoebe Moore if she my said daughter die before me-all and singular the lands goods and chattels which I have given and bequeathed to her my said daughter Phoebe-I make this codicil to prevent disputes after my death and hers-My will and memory is that this codicil be adjudged to be part of my said Will and Testament and that all things therein mentioned and contained be faithfully and truly performed and as fully and amply as if the same were so declared and set forth in my last Will and Testament witness my hand and seal this twenty fifth day of September one thousand eight hundred and eighty four Edward Hopkins X his mark.
