Prerogative Court of Canterbury - Letters of Administration, extractions

1675 - 1838

Transcribed and contributed by David Anstey, August 2025. While I have endeavored to be as correct as humanly possible, there may be errors. One should check and compare any transcription, with the original. (Since the early PCC Admons are in Latin, and this author is not versed in Latin; a “standard format transcription” effort, was employed. Folk knowledgeable in early Latin legal writing, may possibly enhance specific legal wording, phrases, contractions, annotations, etc.) This file was not an attempt at a complete listing of Newfoundland PCC Admons. Other Newfoundland PCC Admons, do exist. Italicized notes accompany some Admon references; for any possible deeper research

*Many early East and North Coast Newfoundland settlers, originated on the South and West border of the New Forest, in Hampshire. Sometimes, they were one of plural sons. Who weren't inheriting a share of the ancestral family land. Rather their father bequeathing a sum of money, in lieu. There were cases where the subdivision of land, would not support all family siblings. And there were cases, where after some time of husbanding land, the Leases were revoked for reasons like death, sickness, etc. Thereby, some whom were facing poor circumstances at home, made the decision to make a trial, in the "land of the fish".
