While we have endeavored to be as correct as humanly possible, there may be errors.Old Roman Catholic Cemetery in Shoal Brook, Bonne Bay. I found this cemetery with the help a local gentleman sometime around 2000. I went back this year with my daughter on September 13, 2023 and she photographed the headstones we found. We could not find the first headstone for the French sailor but we found another one for Elizabeth Martin, the wife of William Martin The first headstone I found is laying on the ground and is in Latin and French it is as follows; 1. In hoc signo vinces Ci Git un Francais Pierre - Marie LeLuhAndré Quartiere Maitre de Timoherie décéde a bord du Drac le 6 Septembre 1892 a lage de 23 ans The second headstone is laying on the ground in 2 pieces by its base; 2. Erected by James Hallan in loving memory of his beloved wife Lydia Josephine who died September 5, 1883 aged 43 years also their daughter Mary Ann died 16 February 1884 aged 20 ½ years The third headstone is the only one still standing; 3. In memory of Charles Curnell died April 9, 1897 aged 67 years also his wife Johanna died August 14, 1876 aged 40 years The fourth headstone is broken off about half way down the top piece is leaning against the lower half; 4. In memory of Mary Ellen Cannal who died August 5, 1874 aged 5 years verse The new one found in 2023 is in two pieces on the ground; 5. In memory of Elizabeth Martin, who departed this life (date illegible), aged 26 years. Erected by her husband William Martin. |
