Will of Philip Coats

IN RE:   PHILIP COATS.    DECEASED

I, Philip Coats, Planter and Fisherman, residing at Eddys Cove, Strait of Belle Isle, North West Coast of Newfoundland do solemnly declare this to be my last Will and Testament, being in sound mind at the date of execution thereof.

I die in the faith of the Church of England and desire to be buried according to the Rites and Ceremonies of that Church in the Cemetery situated at Anchor Point.

I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Sarah Coats for her exclusive use and control during the term of her natural life should she survive me all the Freehold and landed property Dwelling Houses Stores Boats Nets Fishing Gear, Seal frame, Salmon Berth at Green Island Brook, Cattle, monies Furniture and household effects and everything else of value in my possession at West Point and Eddys Cove, which property and goods mentioned herein after her decease are to be divided equally between my sons Philip Coats and Andrew Coats, on the condition that the property and goods in question are not to be sold or disposed of by either or all of them, but to be worked together by them and the profits thereof divided between them in equal parts. Further. I fully release and discharge my son William Coats from the amount due to me for various goods etc supplied to him from time to time which amount must be considered by him to be his fair share of my property.

I appoint Mr John White Senior and Mr Thomas White Senior now residing at Poverty Cove as my Executors of this my last Will and Testament.

In witness whereof I have this twenty ninth day of April one thousand eight hundred and ninety signed my hand in the presence of the witnesses named. PHILIP COATS. Signed in the presence of us
