In re: WILLIAM WATERMAN. DECEASED.
In the name of God Amen. I William Waterman, Planter, of Fogo in the Island of Newfoundland being through the goodness of Almighty God of sound mind and memory but being aware of the uncertainty of human life do make, publish and declare this my last will and testament.
First I recommend my soul to God Who gave it and desire that my body may be decently buried in St. Andrew’s Churchyard at Fogo according to the rites & ceremonies of the Church of England. With respect to my worldly estate I give bequeath and dispose of it in the following manner after all my just and lawful debts are paid and discharged-
Second I give and bequeath to my beloved son Josiah Waterman all the property I die possessed of consisting of dwelling house, Fish Room, Stage, nets, boats, fishing gear and guns together with the sum of £230 cy, or thereabouts, now bearing interest in the Bank of England and whatever money may be in the possession of William Waterman & Co. Merchants at Fogo, at the time of my decease, for his sole use and benefit.
Third- I give and bequeath to my beloved son, John Waterman of Back Cove, Fogo, all my wearing apparel, together with the sum of four pounds in cash.
Fourthly I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Jane Banks of Tilt Cove, my bed and bedding, together with the sum of four pounds cash-
Fifth I give and bequeath to my beloved daughters Phoebe Simms, Dorcas Simms and Louisa Smith the sum of four pounds each in cash. I likewise constitute make and ordain the Rev. Christopher Meek & John W. Hodge Esqr of Fogo the executors of this my last will and testament, revoking and annulling all former dispositions of my property. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this sixteenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy-four-
