Notre Dame Bay

The Last Will and Testament of me Thomas Tizzard of Okeford Fitzpaine in the County of Dorset, Gentleman, made and published this fifteenth day of August, One Thousand seven Hundred and seventy nine. First after my Debts and Funeral Expenses are paid, I give unto my sister Mary Tucker 10 Guineas a Year during her Life, to be paid by my Executor, the first payment to be made at the end of twelve Calendar Months after my Decease. Also I give unto my Kinsman William Elford's six children, by his present Wife Betty, the Sum of five pounds each to be paid by my Executor when they arrive at the Age of Sixteen Years to bind them Apprentice to some Trade. Also I give unto my Nephew Jeffrey Tizzard's four Children the Sum of five pounds each, to be paid by my Executor, when they arrive at the Age of Sixteen Years, to bind them Apprentice to some Trade. Also I give unto my half Brother Joseph Wheeler, the Sum of ten pounds to be paid by my Executor at the End of twelve Months after my Decease. Also I give unto my half Sister Sarah Belbin, the Sum of five pounds to be paid her by my Executor, at the end of twelve Months after my Decease. Also I give unto Betty Elford, the wife of William Elford above mentioned, for her own use the Sum of seven pounds a Year to be paid her by James Furnell of Pool, for seven years next after my Decease, the first Payment to be made at the End of twelve Months after my death, and so continued every Year for seven Years successively, out of three Hundred pounds, which the said James Furnell owes me on Bond, by doing which he shall be clear of the said debt of three Hundred pounds. Also I give unto my old Servant Sarah Jeanes, the Sum of three Pounds, to be paid her by my Executor, at the End of twelve Calendar Months after my Decease. All the Rest, Residue and Remainder of my Estate and Effects, whatsoever and wheresoever, likewise, all debts that are due to me, I give unto my Nephew Tizzard Furnell whom I make, constitute, and appoint, sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament, utterly revoking and disannulling all former and other Wills and Testaments, by me at any Time heretofore made, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament. *Thomas Crew was of Child Okeford, Oakford Fitzpaine, and Poole, Dorset, A Poole - Newfoundland merchant, who Mastered his own vessels to Newfoundland at one stage, but later stayed in England as a merchant, and stopped voyaging to Newfoundland as a vessel Captain. Thomas Crew from Sturminster Newton District. ( During the 1750’s, he appears as a Poole Newfoundland Captain. Circa 1760 Thomas captained for George Tito. In 1764, Thomas Crew captained the 200 Ton vessel “Joseph” to Newfoundland, for Joseph White of Poole, Dorset. In this era he also sailed for John Green and Young Green, Poole to Carbonear. Thomas Crew is also seen voyaging to both Trinity Bay and Bonavista Bay. To Notre Dame Bay as well? During 1780’s – 1825, Thomas Crew sent vessels Poole to Newfoundland, of his own account, as well in partnership, as a Poole Newfoundland Merchant. In 1676, Thomas Crews was a Bonavista Bay Planter, having no wife. Thus it may appear this family held longstanding Newfoundland interest. Spanning plural generations. ( 1787, Poole, Dorset. The Thomas Crew family of early Bonavista, achieving historically greater financial and social status, than the Tizard Family.
