This is the last will and testament of John Moores of Back Harbour Twillingate in the Northern District Newfoundland, planter First I give devise and bequeath to Susanna my wife my dwelling house in which I now reside together with all my other houses and buildings wherever situated also all my gardens and lands my household furniture goods and chattels my fishing room and all my craft also my cattle, debts dues and claims in short whatever is mine or whatever I may have any lawful claim to at the time of my death- I give and bequeath to Susanna my wife during such time as she shall remain unmarried after my decease for the mutual support benefit and maintenance of herself and my children. But it is my will that if she shall marry or at her decease that the whole of the above devised and bequeathed shall be equally enjoyed shared and divided between my sons then living or the son or sons who have continued to reside with their mother on the premises rendering such assistance to her as may be in his or their power for the mutual support & benefit of the family
It is also my will that my daughters so long as they remain unmarried shall have a right to live and reside in my dwelling house if they see proper and convenient so to do during such time as they shall remain unmarried rendering such assistance to their mother as may be in their power. That my aged mother Elizabeth Moores shall have the right to occupy that part in my dwelling house which she now enjoys that she shall be provided with all suitable necessaries for her support and comfort during the term of her natural life- It is further my will that my schooner the “Susan” shall be disposed of after my decease as soon as may be deemed advisable by my executors with the approbation & consent of my wife the proceeds from the sale to be appropriated as may be found most to the interest of my wife and children then residing with her. And lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint William Wells of Back Harbour aforesaid and Joseph Roberts of Bluff Head Twillingate aforesaid executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this sixth day of April in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty seven (A.D. 1867)
