 In re     JOHN JAMES MANUEL      deceased.

    Know all men by these presents that I John James Manuel of Jacksons Cove Notre Dame Bay Newfoundland Trader being in poor health but of sound and perfect mind and memory do make this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time made heretofore First my will is that all my just debts at the time of my decease be paid out of my estate and further I will, give and bequeath to my wife Alice Manuel my land situated at Jacksons Cove Newfoundland aforesaid as per Grant by me now held except eighty the width of feet bounded by Charles Batstone land from the water to the Salvation graveyard that is eighty feet wide from Charles Batstone’s boundary which I have already given to my adopted son known as Victor Manuel his right to which I now confirm And to my wife Alice Manuel aforesaid I will give and bequeath my dwelling house with furniture therein also my stores wharves and all other erections on my aforesaid granted land at Jacksons Cove with the exception of any erections on the eighty feet aforesaid given and bequeath hereby to my adopted son Victor Manuel as aforesaid
And my will is that the property hereinbefore willed by me to my wife Alice Manuel be hired out according to my executor’s judgement to be hereinafter named he the executor to superintend the same the proceed of which to go to the benefit of my wife Alice Manuel aforesaid two thirds and the one third to go to the benefit of Walter James Manuel son of Victor Manuel aforesaid
My Schooner “Voyager” I leave give and bequeath solely with all her belongings to my adopted son Victor Manuel aforesaid and my land situated at Landowns Cove near Jacksons Cove the half already given Victor Manuel aforesaid I give and confirm to his and the other half to his son Walter James Manuel aforesaid
    My shop and store stock in trade I will and bequeath to be sold out of which any just debts at the time of my decease are to be paid the remainder to go to my wife Alice Manuel aforesaid and any money due me at the Bank of Nova Scotia at St. John’s Newfoundland I leave to my wife Alice Manuel for her sole use and benefit and money that in the Bank of Montreal to go to Walter James Manuel aforesaid at the time of his coming of age.     Lastly I hereby appoint Samuel J. Blackler of Nippers Harbor Nfld Merchant to be executor of this my last will and testament and that he is to have ten per cent of the proceeds of my property.     Signed sealed and declared as my last will and testament at Jacksons Cove Newfoundland this fifteenth day of August one thousand nine hundred and sixteen contained on three sheets of paper.     John James Manuel (LS)     Signed sealed and declared in our presence at Jacksons Cove Nfld this fifteenth day of August 1916.     Witnesses Janet H.
