Will of James Randle

In re JAMES RANDLE: DECEASED.

In the name of God Amen. I James Randle Senr of Fogo Planter in the Island of Newfoundland, being through the goodness of Almighty God of sound mind and memory but being aware of the uncertainty of human life, do make publish and declare this my last will and testament, that is to say,

First I recommend my soul to God who gave it and desire that my body may be decently buried in St. Andrew’s Church yard at Fogo. With respect to my worldly estate I give bequeath and dispose of it in the following manner after all my just and lawful debts are paid and discharged.

Second, I give and bequeath to my beloved daughters Mary Randle or Leat Julia Randle or Downer and Caroline Randle or Downer the sum of one dollar each to be raised and levied out of my estate-

Third I give and bequeath to my sons George Randle and Eli Randle the sum of one dollar each to be raised and levied out of my estate-

Fourth, I give and bequeath to my grandson George Downer the sum of one dollar to be raised and levied out of my estate-

Fifthly I give and bequeath to my son Levi Randle my fishing room at Fogo at presently occupied by me bounded on the south by William Downer’s Room, on the east & north by the water of the harbour on the west by the Room of Randle & Tizzard and the publick road- also I give and bequeath to my son Levi Randle aforesaid the rest and residue of my personal estate of whatsoever kind and not hereinbefore given and including all my debts monies, boats, nets, stores &c- &c. I likewise constitute make and ordain Levi Randle aforesaid the sole executor of this my last will & testament by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty third day of August A.D. one thousand eight hundred and sixty nine.

Signed sealed published pronounced and declared by the said James Randle Senr (after having been read over and fully explained to said James Randle) as his last will and testament in presence of us and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names, witnesses
