In re JAMES BLACKLER. DECEASED.

In the name of God Amen. I James Blackler of Back Harbor Twillingate Newfoundland being very sick & weak in body but of sound mind & memory and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make & ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say, I give and recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God who gave it and my body I commend to the earth to be burried in Christian burial at the discretion of my executors nothing doubting but that at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God

And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form, First, I give and bequeath to Martha, my dearly beloved wife, until her death, my dwelling house and all appertaining to it, also all my money’s actual or receivable after that the legacies hereinafter mentioned have been properly and duly paid by my executors, together with all my household goods, debts and moveable effects

Also to my well beloved son Amos Blackler whom I likewise constitute, make and ordain joint executor of this my last will & testament, all the land and room appertaining to this house,

Also to my well beloved son James Blackler whom I likewise, constitute, make & ordain joint executor of this my last will & testament, all land now belonging to me on Batricks Island also all that garden land on this side of Batricks Island Tickle.

Also all my floating property pertaining to my occupation as Fisherman I give and bequeath to be equally divided between my sons Amos and James.

Also to my five children namely Amos Blackler, James Blackler, Elizabeth Spencer, Anne Rossiter & Eliza Luther, I hereby order and direct that the sum of £10 currency be paid within three months of my death to be raised & levied out of my estate. Also that all money remaining after the demise of my wife Martha be divided among my five children in the following manner, namely to the sons at the rate of three quarters and the daughters at the rate of one quarter of the whole amount, I also direct that my two sons provide their mother Martha Blackler with firewood, so long as God spares her life.

Also to my three step daughters Mary Collins, Rebecca Fiefield and Sarah Wells I direct that the sum of £1. (one pound) currency be paid within three months of my death,

Also that my two executors Amos & James Blackler pay all funeral expenses &c. out of my estate. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 23rd day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy five.
