Edward Martin was a son of Richard Martin and Louisa (Cantwell)?? from Harbour Grace. Richard was a son of Francis Martin and Jane Snow of Harbour Grace. Richard appears to have moved back and forth between Black Island in the Exploits region and Harbour Grace in the early 1840s and then finally settled in the Black Island region. His first child William was born 1841 in Black Island and second son Francis was born in Harbour Grace 1845. Edward was born circa 1852 and was married three times. He married Emma Rose of Twillingate in 1882, Fanny Whitt of Kettle Cove in 1915 and Jane Rowsell in 1916. Henry Frederick Fitzgerald was married to Marion Martin, daughter of Matthew Martin and Jane Maria Mercer who were all of Harbour Grace. Marion was the second cousin once removed of Edward.

The Petition of Harold Martin, of Harbor Grace,

HUMBLY SHEWETH that:-

  1. Edward Martin, late of Lewisporte in the Electoral District of Twillingate, Farmer, deceased, died at that place on or about the 18th day of April, 1925.

  2. The said deceased died intestate.

  3. The said deceased left him surviving at the time of his death as next of kin, his widow, Jane Martin, his son Frederick Martin both of Lewisporte and Annie Seymore now resident of Toronto, Canada.

  4. The said deceased at the time of his death was possessed of property within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court of the probable value of $1900.00 ?? Hubert? Dulles? H.F.F.

  5. The paper-writing hereto annexed marked “A” is a correct and true inventory and valuation of the estate and effects of the said deceased at the time of his death so far as Your Petitioner can at present ascertain.

  6. Neither Probate of any Will nor Letters of Administration to the estate of the said deceased have been applied for by or granted to any person.
