In re
Solomon Roberts deceased I, Solomon Roberts, of Change Islands, Newfoundland, being of sound mind, memory, and understanding, do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. First. I give, devise and bequeath to my beloved wife, Susan, the Dwelling House in which we now reside, together with all of said house furniture bedding, etc. [with the exception of the piano, which I leave to my daughter Bessie Maud] also the land upon which the said house is errected, and the garden connected therewith, the same to be used by my said wife, for her own and our daughters benefit during my said wife's lifetime, after which it shall revert to my son Fred and my daughter Bessie jointly. Second. My beloved wife Susan shall be further provided for, in that she shall receive the yearly interest on any money which may be found in my name in any Bank or elsewhere at the time of my decease said money to be used for her maintenance and that of my daughters who may be unmarried and living at home at the time of my decease. After my wife's decease the principle of said money shall be shared as follows:-One quarter of the whole to revert to my daughter, Bessie Maud, Five hundred dollars [$500.00] to the Methodist Church of Change Islands, to be used by the Trustees of the said Methodist Church for the purpose of purchasing a Church Bell, unless one had been previously provided, in which case the said sum of $500.00 shall be used by the said Trustees for any purpose they wish in improving the said Church property. Balance of said money to be shared equally between my sons, John Harris Bennett, Frederick George, Harry Edward and Redvers Buller, and my Daughters Mary and Lizzie. Third. I give and bequeath to my son, John Harris Bennett, the Dwelling House now occupied by him, together with the land in connection therewith, to have and to hold onto the said John Harris Bennett, his heirs, executors and assigns forever. Fourth. I give and bequeath to my four sons, John Harris Bennett, Harry Edward and Redvers Buller and Frederick George my Business Premises, at Main Tickle, Change Islands, together with all Merchandise stock, Land, Fishing Gear, Schooners, and all property owned by me at the time of my death, and not otherwise specified, also the Business Premises, Houses and Land, recently purchased by me from J. W. Hodge, situate at North End, Change Islands, share and share alike. Fifth. My two sons, Arthur Samuel and Robert Alexander had been previously considered and provided for to some extent by deed of Gift of Land in Alberta, Canada, and also Govt Victory Bonds of 1918. Sixth. It is my earnest wish and desire that my Sons shall see that their mother shall be properly looked after during her lifetime, and that she shall not be in want of any comfort which it is in their power to provide. Also that my sick Daughter Bessie shall receive at all times the same proper and kind attention. Seventh. Owing to my Son, Frederick George, having lost his left arm, when fighting for his King and Country in the great July drive of 1916, when so many of our noble lads paid and made the supreme sacrifice of their lives, which incapacitates him for the ordinary vocation of life, it is my desire that all his brothers shall at all times treat him with every kindly consideration, and do all in their power to compensate him for the loss of his arm, and to assist in making his life pleasant. Eight. I hereby appoint my two sons, John Harris Bennett, and Frederick George to be joint executors of this my last Will and Testament, and hereby revoke all other wills previously made by me. Signed, Sealed, published and declared by the above named Solomon Roberts, as and for his last will and testament, in the presence of us, who have hereunto subscribed our names at his request, as witnesses thereto, in presence of the said testator and of each other.
