Tom Dicks carved his name in a pine tree at Indian Pond and dated it---T.D. 1778 . This was recognized by Peyton's surveyors who found it in 1908 after having someone climb the tree. Apparently the T.D. was identified as Tom Dicks as he was a trapper living at Indian Brook and was known to Peyon's surveyors. This comes from "River Lords" by Amy Louise Peyton. I spoke to Amy , but she couldn"t supply anything further. I've never been able to find anything further on Tom such as family etc. Geo of Shoe Cove is believed to have come from England and I believe that is correct. - Harold J. Dicks
