There are several other persons who catch Salmon in cod nets and this class of nets are not so numerous in every creek and cove in our District, that they are, or will be in the course of time, the ruination of the hook-and-line fishery and Salmon fishery also, for there is no doubt but they catch the largest Salmon that comes on the coast and a good many of them too. An old Salmon catcher informed me a short time ago, that he was sure that all the large breeding Salmon would soon be gone, as they were caught by the large mesh cod net and salmon nets. He said there ought to be a law that the mesh of any Salmon net should not be larger than 4 1/2 inches. |
