Last Will and Testament of
John Burke late of St. Jacques
Fortune Bay Planter deceased.
I John Burke Merchant of St. Jacques being sound in mind but sick in body do declare this my last will and testament. To my wife Catherine I leave all money that I die possessed of to be at her decease divided among our children as she may see fit. These monies not to include one hundred and fifty pounds ( £ 150) invested in a line of Steamers running between St. John's and New York. This money ( £ 150) I leave to my son, Lewis. Whatsoever share in the business of Burke Bros. I may die possessed of I leave to my wife Catherine on condition that it be employed in the business of the firm as heretofore. Any other property not mentioned already that I may die possessed of I leave to my wife Catherine.
