1803 Harbour Breton Surrogate Court order

The following is an extract of an 1803 Harbour Breton Surrogate Court order requisitioning an accused by name of Jean Baptiste, of Fortune for the detention of a young servant boy by name of John Elijah.

Sir

I understand that you have in your
confiscation two Lads, the one Saml Evans of Grand
Bank, Son to John Evans, the other John Elijah, a
Lad who ...ipped himself for William Bennett of
of Fortune and was Afterward detained away by
yourself in Person from Wm Bennett of Fortune, it
is my Direction that you so immediately give
up the said Boy John Elijah to William Bennett
of Fortune. The said John Evans has Direction
to receive his Son from you, and you are hereby
directed to quit his Majesty of Territories of
Newfoundland in Penalty of Refusal of
this Order you shall deliver? for agreeable to Act
of Parliament.

You are hereby required to Make, Ap-
lication to Jean Baptiste of Fortune to deliver
up, to you your Son, who is now in his Sen. agree-
able to my Orders to him of this Days date, as
said, Jean Baptiste is ordered to quit
the Territories of His Majesty in Newfoundland.
