Birth Certificates are available from the Government only for NL births after 1892. The information required is the name of the person, birth date, place of birth, parents names including mother's maiden name and your relationship to the person. If you do not have the exact date they will do a search for three years at no extra cost but you still need the rest of the information. If you do not have the parents names a search will not be done. Instructions on who/where to contact and the form are available on the government website.

Births prior to 1892 are baptism records only and these are available at PANL - if they have the record. The staff at PANL can give you a "true copy" which is an extraction of the record they have in their Vital Stats or Parish Records Collection. They require the name, approximate date, place, religion and parents names. They can not do a search without the place and approximate date. Form for pre-1892, Genealogical request for research.
