Ronald J Jackman, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Jackman, Station Road, Grand Falls. Born July 1921 and educated at Notre Dame Academy, leaving in 1937. He was a member of the Catholic Cadet Corps and a keen athlete, playing football, hockey and baseball on his school and brigade teams. He joined the Royal Air Force in September 1939 and is training to be a flight mechanic, and has made an excellent start.

Walter J Parsons, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Parsons, Bishop’s Falls. Born March 1917 and educated at Bishop’s Falls Public School, leaving in 1935, and subsequently at the Memorial College, St. John’s. Was prominent in hockey and track running. Parsons joined the Royal Air Force in September 1939, and is now in England training to be a Wireless Operator.

James Peyton, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Peyton, Twillingate. Born June 1920 and came to Grand Falls in December 1922. He was educated at Grand Falls Academy and subsequently worked in the Grand Falls Co-operative Store. He was a member of the Scouts and played hockey. He joined the Royal Air Force in December 1938 and is now “somewhere in France” where he is a ground mechanic.

Howard Moss, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Moss, Grand Falls. Born January 1918. Educated at Grand Falls Academy where he left in 1936. Moss was keen on hockey and swimming. He joined the Royal Air force in November 1938 and is now “Somewhere in England” where he is training to be an Electrical Ground Mechanic.

Fred Hollett, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Hollett, Station Road, Grand Falls. Born July 1918, and educated at Grand Falls Academy, which he left in 1934. Hollett was in the Scouts and was a Second Patrol Leader. He joined the Royal Air Force in December 1938 and is now in England where he is training as a Pilot. We understand that he has recently been selected to be sent back to Canada for training purpose with the R.C.A.F.

Ernest C. Paddock, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Paddock, Windsor. Born April 1921, and educated at the Public School, Windsor, leaving in 1937. Paddock was a member of the Scouts and spent much time fishing. He joined the Royal Air Force in January, where he is training to be a Ground Mechanic.

Hedley Downton, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Downton, Botwood Road, Grand Falls. Born September 1928. Educated at Grand Falls Academy, which he left in 1936. Downton was in the Scouts, where he became a Patrol Leader. He was prominent in athletics playing football, baseball, and hockey, for his school team and for the Scouts. He joined the Royal Air Force in December, 1938 and is now in England, where he is training to be a Flight Mechanic. Since joining the R.A.F. he has played football on various R.A.F. Teams.

Joseph Bartlett, Son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Bartlett, Station Road, Grand Falls. Born October 1919, Bartlett was a regular member of the C.L.B. and obtained the rank of Corporal. His principal athletic interest was track running. He joined the Royal Air Force December 1938 and is now “Somewhere in France” where he is a Ground Mechanic.

Harry Thompson, Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Thompson, Botwood. Born August 1917 at Botwood he received his education at Botwood School and was a member of the Scouts. He played on the Botwood football team. Thompson joined the Navy in July 1939 and is now stationed in England training to be a Wireless Operator.

George Sanger, while in Grand Falls, lived with Mr. and Mrs. H. Pretty, High Street. Born 1919 and was educated at Grand Falls Academy, leaving in 1936. Sanger was a member of the Church Lads’ Brigade in the Bugle Band. He joined the Royal Air Force in January 1939, and is now in England, where he is training to be a Flight Mechanic. Since joining the R.A.F. he has been prominent in boxing, and has already sent home a trophy he has won. He is also a coronet player in the R.C.F. Band.

Albert Duder, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Duder, Windsor. Born June 1912. Educated at Grand Falls Academy, which he left in 1937. Duder belonged to the Scouts and he was a very keen fisherman. He joined the Royal Air Force in December 1938, and is now in England where he is training to be a Wireless Operator and up till now, has passed all examinations.

Harry L. Powell, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Powell, Beaumont Avenue, Grand Falls. Born April 1920 and educated at Grand Falls Academy, which he left in 1936. He was a member of the Scouts and played on the hockey and football team, Powell joined the navy in January 1939 and is now “somewhere in the Mediterranean.

Alexander Rideout, son of Mr. and Mrs. L Rideout, Third Avenue, Grand Falls. Born July 1919 and educated at Grand Falls Academy, leaving in 1935. He was a member of the Scouts. Rideout joined the Royal Air Force in March 1939 and is now in England training to be a wireless operator. He is a member of the R.A.F. Band.

Woodrow Barrett, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Barrett, Botwood. Born January 1918 and educated at Botwood School. He was interested in football. Barrett joined the Navy in July 1939 and is now at a naval station in England training to be a Wireless Operator.

Clement Marsh, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Marsh, Station road, Grand Falls. Born September 1919, and educated at Grand Falls Academy, leaving in 1935. Marsh was a member of the Church Lads’ Brigade and played baseball on their team. He joined the Royal Air Force in January and is now in England, training to be a Flight Mechanic. Since joining the R.A.F. he had played on their football team.

Kenneth D. Goodyear, Son of Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Goodyear, Church Road, Grand Falls. Born June 1921 and educated at Grand Falls Academy, leaving in 1939. He was a prominent member of the Church Lads Brigade, reaching the rank of Corporal. He was a very keen athletic, following in his father’s footsteps, and played hockey, football, baseball and basketball for Grand Falls Academy and the C.L.B. He is maintaining the Goodyear tradition of service, his father and four uncles having been on active service in the last war. He joined the Royal Air Force in September 1939 and is now in England training to be a Flight Mechanic.

Ronald Fewer, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Fewer, Beaumont Avenue, Grand Falls. Born November 1913 and educated at Notre Dame Academy leaving in 1939. He was a member of the Catholic Cadet Corps where he was a drummer in the Bugle Band. He played on the hockey, football and baseball teams of Notre Dame Academy and the C.C.C. Fewer joined the Royal Air Force in March 1939 and is now in England, where is training as a Pilot. Since joining the R.A. F. he has played baseball and tennis.

Harold Beson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Beson, Windsor. Born September 1918, Educated at Grand Falls Academy which he left in 1932. Previous to leaving home his chief interest was in fishing. Beson joined the Army in September 1938 and at present time is stationed somewhere in the Mediterranean.

Douglas Shallow, son of Mr. M. J. Shallow, Chief of the Fire Brigade of Grand Falls, and the well known boxer of earlier days. Born July 1918. Educated at Notre Dame Academy, which he left in 1937. Shallow was a member of the Catholic Cadet Corps, obtaining the rank of Corporal in the Bugle Band. In athletics’ he was prominent in hockey, baseball and football and played on the teams of Notre Dame Academy and the C.C.C. Shallow joined the Royal Air Force in September 1938. He is now in Wales where he is a skilled Electrician, and for some time he was attached to a squad of bombers. His ambition is to become a Pilot. Since joining the R.A.F. he has formed a baseball team.

Gordon Noftall, son of Mr. George Noftall, Botwood Road , Grand Falls. Born June 1917 and educated at Grand Falls Academy, leaving in 1935. He was a Corporal in the Church Lads’ Brigade. Played hockey and football on the team of Grand Falls Academy and the C.L.B. Noftall joined the Navy in January 1939 and is now somewhere in the Mediterranean. Since joining the Navy he has played football for various teams.

Wilfred Griffin, son of Mr. and Mrs. P.J. Griffin, Station Road, Grand Falls. Born October 1918 and educated at Notre Dame Academy, leaving in 1937. He was a member of the Catholic Cadet Corps, playing on the hockey, baseball and football teams, and also played on his Royal Air Force team. Griffin joined the R.A.F. and he is now in England, where he is training to be a Wireless Operator. Since joining the R.A.F. he has played baseball and is captain of his team. He has visited various R.A.F. camps with his baseball team.

Ernest Scott, son of the late Mr. B. Scott and Mrs. Scott of Grand Falls. Born December 1917. Was an N.C.O. in the Church Lads Brigade obtaining the rank of Corporal. He was prominent in hockey, playing on the C.L.B. team. He joined the Royal Air Force in November 1938 and is now in England where he is a Flight Mechanic.

Thomas Power, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Power, Church Road, Grand Falls. Born April 1916 and educated at Notre Dame Academy which he left in 1936. He was a member of the Catholic Cadet Corps, obtaining the rank of Corporal. He was prominent in hockey, football and basketball, playing for his school team and C.C.C. Power joined the Royal Air Force in December 1938 and is now in England, where he is training to be a Flight Mechanic.

Clarence Budgell, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Budgell, First Avenue, Grand Falls. Born February 1920 and educated at Grand Falls Academy, leaving in 1935. He was a member of the Scouts. He joined the Royal Air Force in January 1939 and is now in England, where he is training to be a Flight Mechanic.

John Hennessey, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Hennessey, Hill Road, Grand Falls. Born October 1916 and educated at Notre Dame Academy, leaving in 1934. Was a member of the Catholic Cadet Corps and a Corporal in the Bugle Band. He played football on the team of the Notre Dame Academy. Hennessey joined the Royal Air Force in March 1939 and is now in England, where he is training to be a Wireless Operator.

Verdun Locke, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Locke, Bishop Falls. Born June 1916 and educated at Bishop’s Falls, Public School, leaving in 1934. Locke joined the Royal Air Force in September 1939, and is now in England training to be a Wireless Operator.
