January 14, 1937 EVENTS OF THE YEAR AT HOME AND ABROAD Fire which started in the residence, of Eugene Kennedy, Main Street, Bell Island , resulted in 14 buildings being destroyed, with property damage to extent of $100,000. Hon. R. B. Ewbank, Commissioner for Natural Resources, addressed members of Rotary Club on “India”. M. C. L. I. in spirited debate, decided that “It was better to have written Gray’s Elegy than to have taken Quebec.” Nfld Graduate Nurse’s Association held card party at Guard's Club Rooms. Mr. Levi Chafe. veteran curler, won first points games in competition with 42 contestants. First meeting held in new Pentecostal Tabernacle, Casey St. Lt. Col. L. C.
