At long last--my thanks to all who endured my relentless search for this special lady.
Her name is Ella (probably Ellen) M Corbin CAMPBELL. She was born between 1846 and 1857 near Mint Cove, Spaniard's Bay, Newfoundland. She had one brother, Richard, b 1845 same place. Her parents were Phillip Corbin and Jane Fleming. Her paternal grandparents were Richard Corbin and Ellen Phelan. She was of Irish heritage, perhaps related to Waterford's Bartholomew Corbin of Cape de Verde, Newfoundland. She had at least one son, Peter Corbin, born March 14, 1871, according to his US Naturalization papers. Peter states he arrived October 1888, at the age of 17. I have found no further validation or travel info. Ella married a John C Campbell, and was known to her family as Grandma Campbell. She was tiny, and sprite, and worked hard at what she did, told wonderful stories of music and dances and parties, and was partial to her son, Peter. At the end of her life, Ella lived with her Granddaughter, Mildred Veronica Corbin who married John J Mc Carthy in Boston, where she fell and broke her hip. She survived for some time at Mattapan Hospital, where her great grandchildren, 14 year old Dorothy Gallagher and 9 year old Frances Jean Mc Carthy and 7 year old John Joseph Mc Carthy III would stand by the fence to wave to her at her window. Ella M. Corbin CAMPBELL died on January 13, 1932 in Boston, MA and is buried at St Joseph Cemetery Holyhood at 990 Grange St PO Box 16, West Roxbury MA 02132-0001 Fax 617-327-0526 Phone 617-327-1010. The grave was owned by her son, Peter, and is shared with Peter's second wife, Mary Kennedy, who died on January 25, 1957. Mary's residence at time of death was 36 Worcester Square, Boston, Mass. Additional info I can add: Peter Corbin's first wife was Julia Maria Maddox, b March 12, 1872 in Tilting, Newfoundland. She was amiddle child of several, of parents Ellen FOLEY and Patrick MADDOX, married September 6, 1862 in Tilting RC records. Julia (listed as Helen Julia) died May 29, 1926 in Boston, MA. She is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden, MA. Peter & Julia were married September 5, 1897 in Boston, Mass. Julia's siblings were Walter Maddox, bpt July 23, 1864, William Joseph Maddox, bpt April 13, 1866, Nora Maddox, bpt November 29, 1868, Bridget Clara Maddox, bpt July 27, 1877 and Patrick Peter Maddox bpt July 24, 1878 in Tilting, Newfoundland. Peter died June 15, 1949. He rests at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden, MA. His children, all born in Boston are Mary Agnes Corbin Gallagher Daniels, b July 12, 1898, d Feb 1966, Belleville, NJ, Gertrude Helen Corbin Spearin b September 22, 1899, d Dec 18, 1989, Tiverton, RI; Irene Julia Corbin Stork b June 9, 1901 Boston, d November 1960, Newark, NJ; Mildred Veronica Corbin Mc Carthy Geunther b May 6, 1903, d Feb 4, 1992 Cedar Grove, NJ; Walter Peter Corbin b April 29, 1905, d June 1973, NY. Child from Peter Corbin's second marriage to Mary Kennedy: Peter Corbin b November 3, 1928, d Sept 1985, Tiverton Rhode Island. Peter left a wife, Mary, and five grown children in the military.
