NL GenWebConception Bay North Region ~ Port de Grave DistrictColey's Point - St. John the Evangelist Anglican CemeteryPartial Transcription - 2 of 3 Sections completedR# = Row number. While not in clearly defined rows, an attempt was made to transcribe in rows starting from the extreme left of the church. The row starts close to the road and then moves away from it.S# = Stone number. Each headstone is individually numbered as being distinct. Where there are several marks on the same stone, they are NOT assigned an additional number. This graveyard is arbitrarily viewed as being in 3 sections, as viewed from the road. The first lies to the left of the church (South), the second lies behind the church (West) and the third lies to the right of the church (North). The third section was not transcribed. Consecrated in the year 1906, St. John the Evangelist Church still serves mainly the people of Coley's Point and Country Road, although families from other nearby communities consider it to be their home church. St. John is part of the parish of Bay Roberts -Coley's Point and about 250 families support this church. The church is situated about ¾ of a mile from the headland of Coley's Point on the Neck Road. That is, it is in the approximate geographical centre of Coley's Point. Headstone inscriptions were collected and compiled by STEPHEN BAKER, August 17, 2001. While I have endeavored to be as correct as humanly possible, there may be typographical errors. |
