Anyone who has research interests in Brigus, Conception Bay, should certainly read the book "Brigus Past Glory, Present Splendour" by John Northway Leamon. It is filled with the history of many of the early families and events of the town’s past. On a personal note, I am very thankful to Mr. Leamon for writing this book, as it was instrumental in solving the mystery of my maternal family (Critch) roots.

What follows are a few excerpts from his book in which Leamon refers to some older headstones located within the community.

Page 41: Leamon’s transcription of 2 headstones located “ on a small hill in the garden just behind the Albert Sparkes residence….”

“In Memory of
JOHN NORMAN
Who departed this life 25 April, 1801
Aged 42 years”

&

“ Sacred
to the memory of
GRACE ANTLE
Who departed this life
On the 24th of April, 1838
Aged 77 years”

Page 44: Leamon describes a lone headstone located “just up the path called Road to Burnt Head…”

“Sacred
To the memory of
MOSES MUNDEN
Son of Thomas & Mary Munden
Who departed this life
23rd June. 1843
aged 22 years & 7 months”

“Also to the memory of
JOHN MUNDEN
Son of the above
Who departed this life
11th June, 1828
aged 21 Years”

Page 63: Leamon describes the legible parts of headstones (no longer existent) once located at the intersection of Battery Road and Rattley Row:

“Thomas Roberts

&
