Will of William Mercer
In re WILLIAM MERCER. DECEASED.

I, William Mercer of Jonathan, of Upper Island Cove, in the Electoral District of Harbour Grace do hereby declare this as my last will & testament.

1. I give and bequeath to my grandson Leander Mercer of Leander, my house and land, unless, my son Fenwick decides to return and reside permanently at Upper Island Cove within the next five years, if he should decide, as stated, then the house & land shall be his.

2. I also give and bequeath to my grandson, Leander Mercer of Leander, the sum of one hundred dollars.

3. I do hereby give & bequeath to my grandson Walter Mercer of Fenwick the sum of fifty dollars.

4. I do give & bequeath to my daughter, Susanna Moss, the sum of fifty dollars.

4 ˝. I do give & bequeath to my grandson George Moss, the sum of fifty dollars.

5. I do give & bequeath to my grandson, Lawrence Coombs the sum of thirty dollars, this amount being hire of his house & land.

6. I do give and bequeath to my son Leander Mercer the remainder of my money and all that I die possessed of, my money is deposited in the Bank of Nova Scotia. Hr. Grace.

7. It must be understood that it is my express wish that my house and property shall be kept in the name of “Mercer” and not sold out of the family unless absolutely necessary.

8. Whilst my wife is living, she is to be supported from my estate, & none of the above legacies shall be given or the estate probated, until after her death.

9. And I appoint Walter Crane of N, and William Bradbury to be Executors of this my last will & testament, and all former wills & codicils I hereby revoke.

In witness whereof I have subscribed these presents at Upper Island Cove this Ninth day of Septr. 1922. in presence of two witnesses: Signed. WILLIAM his X mark MERCER

Signed by the Testator as & for his last will & testament in presence of us, who at his request, in his presence & in presence of each other, have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses to his mark.
