Will of William Ford Tapp of Harbor Grace, 1901

This is the last Will and Testament of WILLIAM FORD TAPP, Gunsmith, and now residing in Harbor Grace, Newfoundland.

I do hereby give and bequeath to my son JOHN TAPP all my right title and interest to the Forge now in my possession, together with all the tools, Lathe and other things now in use in said forge, and in the workshop adjoining. I do also give to my said son JOHN TAPP, after the decease of my wife, such furniture and effects, as now belongs to me or which shall belong to me in the House, which I shall occupy at the time of my decease, and also such articles used by me, when a resident in my son's house.

I do Will and bequeath to my wife HANNAH TAPP, the unexpired Lease of the House which I now occupy, and the use of the furniture and effects therein, for and during her natural life.

I do hereby Will and direct my Executors after all lawful debts and expences are paid, to pay to the following persons or object, or their lawfull heirs or representatives, out of the balance of my Estate, which consists chiefly of Bonds of the Mersy Docks and Harbor Board of Liverpool, England and which Bonds are now in possession of Mess. Whitley, c/o Solicitors, 44 Castle Street, Liverpool, together with a sum deposited in the Bank of Nova Scotia Harbor Grace, the following amounts:

To my wife HANNAH TAPP I give and bequeath a sum equal to Twenty percent of the aforesaid balance, for her use and benefits during her natural life, should my said wife predecease the settlement of my Estate, then I hereby direct my Executors to divide my wife's share of my Estate amoungst the other Legatees of this Will in proportion to the amounts bequeathed them therein.

To my son JOHN TAPP, his heirs and assigns, I give and bequeath Twenty percent of the net balance in the hands of my Executors.

To my son GEORGE TAPP, should he survive I give the sum of Fifteen percent of the aforsaid balance. Should he not survive or on the assurance of his death, his proportion shall be divided amoungst the living Legatees or their lawful heirs.

To my daughter ELFRIDA, wife of EDWARD WHITEWAY of St John's, I bequeath Ten percent of the aforesaid balance of my Estate.

To my daughter Mary Jane Noel, of Liverpool England, I also give and bequeath Ten percent of the aforesaid balance.

To my grandchildren, NELLIE and STANLEY TAPP, children of my son GEORGE, I bequeath a sum equal to Ten percent of the balance aforesaid to be divided equally between them when they shall have arrived to their majority, prior to that I direct their portion to be deposied in the Nf Land Savings Bank in the name of my Executors in trust.

To MALINA, wife of ANDREW BLACKWOOD of St John's, I give and bequeath Five percent of the balance aforesaid.

To ANNE, wife of JOHN STUFFORD, cooper of St John's, I give and bequeath Five percent of said balance.

And finally to the Diocese Synod of Newfoundland as a thank offering to Almight God for the spiritual blessing I have recieved in the Church of England, I do give and bequeath Five percent of the balance of my Estate for the use or benefit of the Clerical Retirement Fund of the Diocese of Newfoundland.

I do further appoint Mr WILLIAM WARD and Mr THOMAS ROSS, both of Harbor Grace to be my Executors, and for those services I direct that they pay themselves, the sum of Fifty Dollars each, out of the balance of my Estate.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventeenth day of August A.D. One thousand nine hundred and one.
