Transcribed by Deborah K. Sheppard, great- granddaughter of deaceased. All information between asterisk’s* is handwritten, the rest of the document was typed. This will also contained a diagram of the land next to the town council, main highway and the pond.
I, Richard Sheppard, Sr of Spaniard’s Bay, Carpenter, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make and publish this as my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills and testamentary dispositions heretofore at any time by me made. I hereby appoint my son, Richard Sheppard, Jr to be the executor of this my will. I hereby direct my said executor to pay all my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses as soon as possible after my decease. I hereby give and bequeath unto my son Richard Sheppard all that piece and parcel of land situate at Spaniard’s Bay aforesaid abutted and bounded as follows that is to say: Commencing S.W. angle of land belonging to Lemuel Barrett and running West by land of Collins to a distance of 138 feet; thence running North by land of Esau Sheppard to a distance of 70 feet; thence running West by land of Esau Sheppard to a distance of 155 feet; thence running north by land of Smith to a distance of 173 feet; thence running East by road to a distance of 277 feet; thence running South by land of Barrett to a distance of 231 feet to point of commencement. I hereby give and bequeath unto my son Richard Sheppard all that piece or parcel of land situate at Spaniard’s Bay aforesaid abutted and bounded as follows that is to say: Commencing at the South East angle of land belonging to Mark Sheppard and running North by land of Mark Sheppard to a distance of 436 feet; thence running East by Road to a distance of 73 feet; thence running South by land of Robert Collins to a distance of 440 feet; thence running West by Road to a distance of sixty one feet to point of commencement. I hereby give and bequeath unto my son Richard Sheppard all that piece or parcel of land situate at Spaniard’s Bay aforesaid abutted and bounded as follows, that is to say: Commencing at the North East angle of land belonging to Walter Crane and running South by Main Highway to a distance of 200 feet; thence running West by Pond Road to a distance of 173 feet; thence running North by the property of Max Sheppard to a distance of 60 feet; thence running East by waters of the Pond to a distance of *3000* feet [may be 300, handwriting is unclear]; thence running North by waters of the Pond to a distance of *30 00* feet [may be 30, handwriting is unclear]; thence running East by land of Walter Crane to a distance of *30* feet to the point of commencement together with dwelling house and all other erections situate thereon and the contents contained thereon subject neverless to this proviso: That my wife shall have the right to occupy this parcel of land and premises during the term of her natural life or while she remains in my name; and that my son, Richard Sheppard shall support and maintain and give his mother a decent burial during such occupancy. All the rest and residue of my real and personal estate I give and bequeath unto my son the said Richard Sheppard. In witness whereof, I have hereto set my hand this *14th* day of December, A.D. 1951.
