Will of Philip Holmes
In re

Philip Holmes deceased

In the name of God Amen. I Philip Holmes being sick & weak in body but of perfect mind & memory thanks be given unto God calling unto mind the mortality of my body do make and ordain this to be my last will & testament -- First I commend my soul to God who gave it & my body to be buried in a Christian manner according to the direction of my executors – Secondly I give a bequeath to Elizabeth my well beloved wife all my property that is to say my fishing room & plantation with all & every my goods and chattels of what nature & kind soever to be fully possessed & enjoyed by him in as ample a manner as I have possessed them, during her natural life- Thirdly after her death, John Hudson whom I have brought up from a child shall possess and enjoy one half of the fishing room & plantation aforesaid –that is to say the northern half dividing from the water side in a straight line to the westward and also the half of the potatoe grarden I have in the woods to the westward of my plantation. He is also to have at my death. My gun and feather bed and beding with all my wearing apparel. Lastly – Elizabeth my loving wife shall have at her own disposal the southern half of my fishing room & plantation with all my goods & chattels as aforesaid with the exception of what I have bequeathed to John Hudson aforesaid And I hereby appoint Elizabeth my beloved wife and Mathew Hudson of Blackhead to be the executors of this my last will & testament and I do hereby revoke all former wills Legacies and bequeaths by me in any wise before named confirming this and no other to be my last will & testament. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand this first day of June one thousand eight hundred & twenty six –1826. Philip his X mark Holmes. Witness present William Ellis. Clement Hudson.
