Will of Noah Nicolle of St. Helier, Jersey and Blackhead, Conception Bay, Newfoundland

In the name of God Amen. I Noah Nicolle of the parish of St. Helier in the Island of Jersey, Mariner, at present an inhabitant at Blackhead in Conception Bay in Newfoundland, and now outward bound from the island of Jersey to Newfoundland, being in good health of body & of sound & perfect mind & memory, praise be therefore given to Almighty God, Do make & ordain this my last Will and Testament, in manner & form following (That is to say). First & principally I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God hoping through the merits, Death and passion of my Saviour Jesus Christ to have full & free pardon & forgiveness of all my sins & to inherit everlasting life, and my Body I commit to the Earth or sea as God shall be pleased to order it. And as touching the disposition of all such temporal Estate as it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon me, I give & dispose thereof as followeth. First, I will that my debts and General charges shall be paid & discharged. Item, I give unto the poor of the Parish of St. Helier twenty shillings ster: Item, I give to my brothers & sisters (now living in this Island) to each & every one of them, One shilling. And all the rest & Residue of my personal Estate, goods & chattels whatsoever & wheresoever it shall be at the time of my Decease, Plantation & habitation that I now have & am intitled to & may hereafter have or be intitled to in Newfoundland, I Do Give and bequeath unto my loving wife Ann Nicolle at present in Newfoundland, in Remuneration of the tender love and affection which she has had & hath still for me. And do appoint my said wife And my brother in law Joshua de St. Croix of the parish of St. Helier (at present my attorney) to be Executors of this my last will and testament. And I do hereby Revoke, annul & make void all former Wills and Testaments by me heretofore made. In Witness whereof I the said Noah Nicolle to this my last Will and Testament have set my hand & seal the 10th day of April, Anno Domini 1734. And in the seventh year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord, George the second by the grace of God of Great Britain, France & Ireland, King.

Signed, sealed and declared by the said Noah Nicolle as his last Will and Testament in the Island of Jersey aforesaid where no stamped [paper?] is used. In the [illegible].

Croix, Notary and Tabellion publick by Lawful Authority Admitted & sworn dwelling in the Island of Jersey Do Certify that what is here above written, is the true Copy word for word to the Original Will & Testament of Noah Nicolle of the said Island of Jersey. On the reverse of the will is written by court staff, in French:
Copy of the Testament of Noah Nicolle, entered and proven (for whoever is concerned in the goods which he might have in this Isle) the 29th day of July 1742 after the oath of Josué de Ste. Croise, One of the Executors who was herein named. Having declared that the original which was in the hands of Anne Nicolle, who was herein named as Executrix with the said de Ste. Croise, had been probated in Newfoundland of which she informed him by letter. Fr: de Couture
