This is the last will and testament of me Moses Neil of Freshwater Farmer.     First I will that my funeral expenses and all my just debts be paid out of my estate
Second I give devise and bequeath to my son Patrick Neil the farm property together with all buildings thereon and all chattels and furniture belonging thereto held and owned by me and known as the Upper Farm for his own use and benefit to have and to hold the same forever and I expressly forbid my said son Patrick Neil from Mortgaging or selling or disposing of or in any wise disposing or encumbering the said farm property and I further will that my said son Patrick Neil do pay the sum of twenty shillings currency to the Revd the Administrator of the Roman Catholic Diocese of St. John’s for Masses for my soul for a period of fifteen years after my death.
Third I give devise and bequeath the Lower Farm which I now occupy and live on to my beloved wife Bridget Neil with the dwelling house and furniture and all other buildings and erections thereon together with all chattels both real and personal which I am now in possession of or hereafter shall be in possession of to have control manage and use the same without any interference whatsoever from any other party or parties for and during her lifetime and after her death I will that the said farm property goods and chattels are to pass over into the possession of my son William Neil I also will that my my said beloved wife Bridget do not in any way sell mortgage encumber or dispose of the said real or personal property or any portion thereof during her said lifetime And I expressly forbid my son William Neil from selling mortgaging encumbering or disposing or leasing the said property after he comes into its possession.
Fourth I bequeath & give the sum of twenty pounds currency to my granddaughter Mary Dillon payable in two instalments of ten pounds each the first payable within one year after my death the second payable within ten years after my death.
Fifth I hereby appoint John Carew of St. John’s Undertaker and Thomas Murphy of St. John’s Road Inspector to be executors of this my last will and testament.     Signed published and declared as my last will and testament on this the twenty eight day of September A.D. 1885, Moses his X mark Neil. Signed published and declared by the said Moses Neil as his last will and testament in our presence who in his presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our hands as witnesses it having been first carefully read over and explained John Carew, Thos. Murphy.
