In the name of God Amen. I, John Mayne of Harbor Grace in the Island of Newfoundland, Surgeon, being of sound mind and memory, but in a bad state of health, do make this my Last Will and Testament, revoking all others by me heretofore made – in the first place I give and bequeath all and singular the household furniture, plate, linen, china and medicines which I may be possessed of at the time of my decease unto my dear and well beloved wife Eliza Davis to and for her own proper use, benefit and disposal.
I also give and bequeath unto my said wife, Eliza Davis, the interest of all my property situated in Bonavista, and in like manner also the interest arising from all the money I may have in the Funds (?) at the time of my decease – for and during the term of her natural life – but in case she should get married, then the interest arising as above stated from property in Bonavista and Funded property to cease, and the whole of that property, both funded and landed to revert to my children, to be equally divided among them, at the time of her marriage or at the time of her decease – and it is also my intention that my beloved child Eliza Mayne shall live with my wife Eliza and be supported from the interest arising from the property as before mentioned until she gets married or is otherwise provided for and no longer – as I have said that all my furniture, plate, linen, china and medicines were at my wife’s disposal – and it may be improperly interpreted as to my meaning – now it is this, that any thing not positively wanted for housekeeping, or anything of a perishable nature shall be sold and the sum arising therefrom shall be put to interest with the remainder of the funded property and as is before stated, my said wife shall not dispose of any property or furniture whatever that may be in her possession but at her decease or marriage it shall revert to my children in equal proportions.
In testimony of this my last Will and Testament, I have sealed with my seal and signed with my hand these presents on the eleventh day of February One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fourteen.
