Will of John Lewis

In re: JOHN LEWIS. DECEASED.

In the name of God Amen I John Lewis of Holyrood Electoral District of Harbor Main Newfoundland, Fisherman being of sound disposing mind memory and understanding do make publish and declare this as my last will and testament I hereby appoint Elizabeth E. Lewis to be executor of my last will and direct her to pay all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses as soon as possible after my decease.

I hereby give devise and bequeath to my beloved wife Elizabeth E. Lewis all my property situate at the main beach Holyrood consisting one piece of land bounded S E by Mrs. Thos. Moores property S W by Mr. Philip O’Neil’s property N E by the Sea Shore. Also one piece of land situate inside the old road bounded by Mrs. Thos. Moore S W by old road S E and S W by the Mountain together with my Dwelling House Barn Cellar and timber thereon My Household effects my horse harness carts slide sleigh and wagon to have and to hold until her death after which it is to be my sons Philip J. Lewis.

I give devise and bequeath to my Elizabeth E. Lewis $7500 in the Bank of Montreal

to my son Philip J. Lewis $2500 after he becomes to the age of 21 years this includes Govt Debentures

I also bequeath to my son Philip’s J. Lewis all that piece or parcel of land bought by me from the estate of Patrick Byrne bounded as follows N E by the Sea Shore N W by Mrs. Thos Moore S E by the property of William Byrne and also the property of John Byrne S W by the Winter land with House Barn and Cellar thereon.

I also bequeath my son Philip J. Lewis one piece or parcel of land situate on Salmonier Road consisting of 16 acres more or less Also two pieces of land on Witless Bay Road.

I give devise and bequeath to my sister Mary Moore the sum of $100 (One hundred dollars)

I give devise and bequeath $100 for Masses for my Father Mother & myself.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 21st day of Sept. A. D. 1918 JOHN LEWIS

Signed published and declared by the said John Lewis as and for his last will and testament in my presence at the same time who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other hereunto subscribed my name as witness to the due execution hereof Witness William Veitch Holyrood Sept. 21st 1918.
