Carbonear - Will of James Howell (1807)

In the Name of God Amen. I James Howell of Carbonear in the Island of Newfoundland Planter being weak of body but of a sound mind and memory do make this my last will and Testament and desire it may be received by all persons as such. First I give and Bequeath to my Son William Howell my Son Richard Howell and my daughter Honour the Wife of William Ash. All my Fishing room or plantation with the Gardens Meadows and every thing belonging thereto except the Dwelling house in which I now reside which I give to my daughter Honour Ash the remaining part of the room to be equally divided to the three persons mentioned above. My Son William Howell is to live in the Dwelling house with his Sister Honour Ash as long as he chooses. The plantation Gardens and everything belonging hereto to be theirs their Executors Administrators and assigns forever. I Give and Bequeath to my Son William Howell my feather bed and bedding. I give and bequeath to my son Richard Howell One Cow. I give and bequeath to my Daughter Honour Ash one Calf as also my household furniture that may be remaining. I give and bequeath to my Daughter Elizabeth Wife of John Penny one large arm chair. I give and bequeath to William son of Nicholas Juer a dwelling house and garden situated and being in Harbour Grace and which is now in the possession of Thomas Mahar to be his Heirs the executors administrators and assigns forever. The rent to be paid to him or his parents after my decease. And whereas I stand indebted to Mr. Elizabeth Pike of Carbonear it is clearly understood by my Son William my Son Richard and my daughter Honor Ash that they are to pay of the said Debt in consequence of keeping possession of the Fishing Room Meadows to be at the rate of Fifteen pounds yearly and every year until the whole is paid being Five pounds for each of them. And I do hereby nominate and appoint Thomas Chancey and Henry Parson both of Carbonear my true and lawful Executors for this my last will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in Carbonear this Twenty Fifth day of July in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight hundred and Seven.
