Cupids N.F.     December 29th / 81.     This is the last will and testament of me James Norman of Cupids in the Island of Newfoundland, Planter.     Being of sound mind though weak in body.     I direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses be paid and satisfied by my executors hereinafter mentioned as soon as conveniently may be after my decease.     I give and bequeath to my two sons Nathan and James Charles Norman all my property in Cupids Village consisting of dwelling house with all the furniture and provisions therein, stable and all my live stock, cows, sheep, horse; and cellar, with all gardens and farming implements. Also ground attached to dwelling house with stores exclusive of fishing gear which may be laid by in stores or dwelling house.     To these beforementioned two sons I leave the aforementioned property on condition that they support and maintain my dear wife Susanna Norman and also my beloved daughter Elizabeth Jane Norman for the term of their natural lives, except either wife or daughter should marry, when the obligation of my sons to support that one shall cease.     I do further direct that all my fishing gear including boats and all gear belonging thereto both in Cupids and in Battle Harbor Labrador be equally divided between my four sons Job, Nathan, William John and James Charles.     I likewise bequeath to these my four sons two pieces or parcels of land, on the main line of road west of Cupids about a mile from the seaboard, to be also equally divided between them. I do further bequeath to Job, Nathan, William John and James Charles my share of the schooner “Leader” to be shared by them equally.     I also direct that my dear daughter Mary Grace Sheppard shall receive a suit of mourning.     And I do further nominate and constitute Messrs. William Wakeham and William A. Bennett to be executors of this my last will and testament.     In witness whereof I the said James Norman have to this my last will and testament set my hand this 29th day of December one thousand eight hundred and eighty-one.     James Norman his X mark.     Signed by test. and acknowledged by him to be his last will and testament in the presence of us present at the same time and subscribed by us in the presence of testator and of each other, William Wakeham, William A. Bennett, executors, Joseph A. Cahill, witness.
