Will of James Griffin of Harbor Grace (1809)
The information in this will was transcribed by JANE ANNE MacKINNON ~ January 2002 from a copy of the original document. While I have tried to be as careful as possible there may errors.

Will of James Griffin of Harbor Grace, 1809
In the Name of God, Amen – I, James Griffin, being very sick and weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given to the Almighty God, therefore calling unto mind that it is appointed for all men once to die, to make and ordain this as my last Will and Testament. This is first of all, I bequeath my Soul into the hands of Almighty God and my body to the Earth to be buried as my friends do direct and the remainder of what I am possessed of after my burial together with what I owe to be disposed of in the following manner and form.
First Richard [Oban?] of St. John’s owes me the sum of Two pounds sterling in part payment of a Watch and Thomas McCabe of said place owes me the sum of Three pounds sterling. Walter Phelan of Brigus got my feather bed and one pair of boots and I am to have a mans share of James Quinlans voyage for this summer.
I owe Wm. Phelan the sum of Four shillings. My funeral expenses to be paid out of the whole and the remainder, if there be anything left to be remitted home to my sister Johanna Griffin alias Healy and to my brother Richard Griffin, each one half both living on Kilkenny Patk Street.
In witness whereof I have set my hand to this as my last Will and Testament this 26th day of November in the year of our Lord 1809.
