         Honora Hicks deceased.

In the name of God Amen.     I Honora Hicks of Spaniards Bay District of Harbor Grace in the Island of Newfoundland, Widow, being very sick and weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God that gave it, and my body I commend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executor, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Almighty power of God.     And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give, devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.     First I give and bequeath to His Lordship, the Most Rev. Dr. Henry Carfagnini, Bishop of Harbor Grace, whom I likewise constitute make and ordain the sole executor of this my last will and testament, the amount I may receive or derive from the sale of my premises, Should I dispose of the same before my demise; Should I not then His Lordship has full power and authority from me to make sale or dispose of the aforesaid premises as His Lordship deems best; and whatever sum may derive therefrom to be appropriated as His Lordship deems proper for the benefit of my soul, and the soul of the late Richard Hicks my beloved husband, alongside of whose grave it is my will to be interred.     And I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannull all and every other former testaments, wills, legacies, bequests and executors by me in anywise before named willed and bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.     In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eleventh day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy eight.     Honora her X mark Hicks (LS)     Signed sealed published pronounced and declared by the said Honora Hicks as her last will and testament in the presence of us who in her presence and in presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names.     John his X mark Barrett,     John Lynch.     Codicil to my last will and testament.     I give and bequeath to Lucy French the following articles, one shawl, one pair of boots & all my wearing apparel.
