In re
         George T. Brown deceased.

This is the last will and testament of me George Brown of Harbor Grace in the Island of Newfoundland Master Mariner and keeper of the Beacon Light on the point of Beach Harbor Grace.     First I desire that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses be paid out of my estate I will bequeath and confirm unto my adopted son James Brown (alias Whelan) and his heirs for ever all that dwelling house land and premises he is now in possession of under a deed from me bearing date the seventh day of September A.D. eighteen hundred and sixty three.     I will and bequeath to my beloved wife Frances Brown the dwelling house I now occupy together with all the furniture in the same and all other my lands and premises and all interest from my invested monies for the term of his natural life which said interest is to be paid to the said Frances Brown by my executors hereinafter named.     And after the decease of the said Frances Brown I will and bequeath the said dwelling house and furniture lands goods chattels monies securities and scrip of every kind and description belonging to me unto my beloved daughter Elizabeth Munn her heirs and assigns for ever.     I direct that my said wife Frances Brown shall not during her life time introduce or bring into my said dwelling house any of her relatives whatever to live with her after my decease without the consent of the said Elizabeth Munn- and further that my said wife Frances Brown shall not lease or let my said dwelling house or premises or any part thereof during her lifetime and should the said Frances Brown at any time after my decease leave Newfoundland to reside elsewhere or lease or let the said dwelling house or premises or any part thereof The said dwelling house and premises shall revert to and immediately vest in my executors who shall take possession of the same and hand the same over to my said daughter Elizabeth Munn forever.     And I further order that my said dwelling house shall be kept insured in the sum of three hundred pounds and the premium of such insurance paid one half by the said Elizabeth Munn and one half by my executors.     And lastly I nominate and appoint Lewis Wilkins Emerson of Harbor Grace aforesaid and Joseph Godden of the same place executors of this my last will and testament.     In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my hand and affixed my seal this thirty first day of March A.D. eighteen hundred and seventy-three.     George T. Brown as and for his last will and testament in presence of us and who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses hereto the words “goods” and “daughter” being first struck out on first page, and the word “hundred” interlined on second page, Lewis W. Emerson,     Alexander Clift.

I George Brown of Harbor Grace Master Mariner the testator in the foregoing will named do hereby make and ordain the following as a codicil to the same.     I will and bequeath to Robert Brown and Elizabeth Brown children of my adopted son the late James Brown share and share alike for ever all that piece of land lying to the northward of the land bequeathed to the said James Brown which said piece of land extends from the said James Browns Northern Boundary to Harvey Street and is fifty-three feet wide from east to west-     I hereby empower my said wife Frances Brown or my executors to lease the lands in rear of my dwelling house during the life time of my said wife but no longer the rent arising from the same to be paid to my said wife,     I direct that the premiums of Insurance on my dwelling house and premises be paid by my daughter Elizabeth Munn or if she refuses, by my executors, and deducted by them from the monies payable to her after the death of my said wife-     I hereby make null and void the appointment of Joseph Godden as one of my executors and I appoint Thomas R. Bennett Esq. Judge of Harbor Grace District Court and Alexander Clift, Esq. Sub-Collector of Her Majesty’s Customs Harbor Grace as co-executor with Lewis W. Emerson named in my before mentioned will.     I also direct that my said wife be paid the portion bequeathed to her quarterly by my executors.     In witness whereof I have hereunto affixed my hand and seal to this codicil this 29th day of September A.D. 1879.     George T.
