Will of Eli Mercer

In re: ELI MERCER. DECEASED

In the name of the Father Son and Holy Ghost Amen I Eli Mercer of Bay Roberts, Planter, being sound in mind and memory do on this 11th day of June in the year of our Lord, one thousand nine hundred make this my last will and testament, as follows: I leave to my wife Grace Mercer all and everything I possess, to be hers for the period of her natural life, but with no power to part with, sell, or devise any portion of my land or other property, unless it be needful for her support, when she may with the consent and approbation of my Executors rent, lease, or sell such portion of the land or other property, as they may deem advisable or necessary for such purpose.

At her death I will, that all my land be divided into two equal parts by a right line running from the water side to my northern or back boundary line The Eastern half of said land I will to my eldest son, John Mercer, together with all the buildings, shop dwelling houses stable and barns now standing on any part of my land, with the proviso, that there be left an open road or right of way, twenty-five feet wide through said portion of land to my son Richard’s land - the western half of my land - said road to start from any point convalescent to my son Richard and to run at right angles to cross road, which leads from Bay Roberts front street to central road or street. The western half of my land together with a bed and bedding I bequeath to my second son Richard Mercer and I appoint William Mosdell senior and William Woods as the executors of this my last will and testament and I charge them to see its provisions faithfully carried into effect. Eli his x mark Mercer Signed, sealed and delivered by the said Eli Mercer, in our presence and in the presence of each other this 11th day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred 1900.
