In the name of God Amen.     This last will and testament of me Elijah Bishop of south Side, Cupids near Brigus was made this twenty-seventh day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five I appoint Thomas Hussey and John Bishop (son of John) both of south side as executors of this my last will and testament.     I give and bequeath all my land at South Side aforesaid to my two sons James & Elijah Bishop to be divided equally between them by a line running from the waterside to the public road leading from Cupids to Burnt Head, James to have the western piece, Elijah to have the eastern piece. I give and bequeath to my son Elijah the new dwelling house together with all the furniture contained in it.     I give and bequeath to my son Elijah the new dwelling house together with all the furniture contained in it.     I give and bequeath to my son James two shares of the stock of the Commercial Bank.     I give and bequeath to my son Elijah two shares of the stock of the Commercial Bank.     The sum of £120 I give & bequeath to be divided equally among my three daughters viz Ann Maria wife of Nathan Batten of South side Jane wife of Henry Bishop of South Side and Mary wife of Robert Bennett of Cupids so that each will receive a sum of £40.
I give & bequeath to the Minister & Church Wardens of St. Augustine Church Burnt Head the sum of Five pounds to be devoted towards the purchase of a Bell for the Church.     The balance of any moneys in the Commercial Bank after the aforesaid legacies have been paid I give & bequeath to my son James to whom also I bequeath my old dwelling house as a set off Elijah's having the new house. The fishing stage I leave for the joint use of my two sons James and Elijah and the cellar in the same way is for the joint use of my two sons aforesaid The residue of my estate, I bequeath to my son Elijah on condition that he provides for his mother, my wife Fanny as long as she lives & gives her Christian burial     Elijah his X mark Bishop.    The above will having been read over in the hearing of the testator & the two attesting witnesses was then signed in the presence of the two attesting witnesses at South side near Brigus this twenty seventh day of February A.D. 1885.     Robert Holland Taylor, Thomas Roberts, witnesses.
